How to write a useful software brief
Describe who needs to do what, and the result they need, rather than asking for a dashboard.
Describe the work
“We need an order dashboard” starts a conversation. “The warehouse coordinator needs to see orders by delivery date and notify purchasing about shortages” makes the user, information and action clear.
Define what finished means
Choose an acceptance example for each important need. If an unavailable product is selected, the system should reveal the shortage to the right person instead of silently continuing. These examples guide both design and testing.
Your first exercise
Choose one role, one task and one exception. Describe them on a page, and distinguish what the first version needs from what can be considered later.
